Team "Sweet Bernice" is running in honor of Bernice Moore. Bernice was kind enough to share a bit of her journey with us.

"I have had a history of ulcerative colitis since 1986. I was told as years progressed; I might have future problems. On October 9th, 2023, my life was changed. I had a colonoscopy, and a polyp was removed and after being sent to lab for test my results were not good. I had cancer under where the polyp was removed. My doctor sent me to Duke for final testing. It was confirmed that I needed to have colon cancer surgery. I will not go into details but on December 13th I had surgery at Duke. They were able to get all my cancer and no treatments were required, I was so thankful God is good. It was quite an ordeal, but I am now living with an ostomy bag for the rest of my life but that is ok considering how it could have been. I get depressed at times but due to such great family and friends I am dealing one day at a time. I am back at work and doing my walks every day. I am so blessed that things were as good as they were. I wish every cancer story could be like mine!!!!" - Bernice
