Presented by Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance and the Michigan Fitness Foundation, Michigan's Classic Cycling Vacation, The 27th Annual Michigander Bicycle Tour will take place in North Central Michigan with Camp Headquarters moving from Cheboygan to Petoskey to Harbor Springs and back. We will ride from shore to shore from one Great Lake to the next starting on the sunrise side of Lake Huron and heading west into the sunset side from July 14-21, 2018. The Michigander is a classic cycling vacation that combines beautiful trails, Great Lakes beaches, lighthouses, forests, rivers ad streams amidst quaint Victorian Era towns, and historic sites in and around National Historic Landmarks in the Upper Midwest.
The tour offers three options; 2-Day Tour, 6-Day Tour or 8-day Tour (which combines both the 2-Day and 6-Day tours). Routes are mostly paved or crushed limestone, and on occasion jaunts on dirt roads. The 2-Day Michigander is designed to be a casual, easy ride up to 25-30 miles each day. The 6-Day Tour moves upwards of 50-60 miles a day and moves from town to town every two days.
The 2-Day Michigander is designed as a casual loop ride, which means everyone will ride out and back on the same route, so those that prefer a shorter ride can simply turn back at any time.The 6-Day Michigander will visit multiple towns with loops every other day and the 8-Day combines both rides.
Breakfast and dinner daily. gourmet coffee each morning, SAGs (support and gear rest stops) every 15 miles with ice water, fresh fruit, KIND bars, and at select stops, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, as well as camping is included with registration. The Michigander Bicycle Tour is also a part of The Pure Michigan FITness Series. This series endorses local, regional and state events consistent with the Governor's Council mission to promote healthy choices, while offering a physical activity event open to all participants, regardless of skill level or age.

Before or after the ride, we highly recommend a night or two on this jewel in the Great Lakes. A National Historic Landmark, the entire Island is filled with beautiful vistas, over 70 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, Fort Mackinac, a quaint shopping district downtown, horse drawn carriage tours during the day, and an active nightlife with its happening music and bar scene. There are no motor vehicles, this is an Island dedicated to preserving its past as it heads into the future. Transportation is by foot, hoof or bicycle.

Electric Bikes Users:
Electric bicycle permits must be acquired in addition to the city’s mandatory annual bicycle license. Electric bike permits are free, and annual city bike licenses cost $3.50. To qualify, people must have a medical reason and doctor’s note prescribing the use of an electric bicycle. People must also apply for a Mackinac State Historic Parks permit, which are processed by the city police department. Electric assist bicycles operating on Mackinac Island cannot have motors larger than 750 watts, or one horsepower. The police department will mail packets of information to those who wish to apply but are off the Island.

Island Logistics:
- 20 minute drive from Mackinaw City Ferry docks to Cheboygan High School
- Ferry boat ride: Shepler's and Star Line both have fast boats that take about 20 minutes to get to and from the Island each day. Star Line also has a "slow boat" that takes about 45 minutes each way.
- Cost: Round trip tickets to the Island each day will add about $25 per person to your vacation budget, we will have discount coupons for all.
- If you choose to stay at the glorious Grand Hotel, there is a dress code after 6pm, you'll need to bring dress clothes.
- Horses take their time and rest often on the hilly Island. If you decide to take a horse drawn taxi, time cannot be predicted, just know it will take longer.
- The fastest way to get around on Mackinac Island is by bicycle.
- The most convenient places to stay are downtown on Main street and Market Street.
- Mackinac Island is a National Historic Landmark, yes, the entire Island. Steeped in history and luxury, it is a great place to stay.
- Book early, the rooms sell out quickly in July.
