Description
TOUR THE TWO PENINSULAS
The 29th annual Michigander Bicycle Tour, Tour the Two Peninsulas, will take place July 13-18 along the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline in Northwest Michigan. This tour showcases Lake Michigan, TART Trails, and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore as it travels to Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, Suttons Bay, Frankfort, Glen Arbor and Crystal Mountain. Riders will enjoy picturesque views of Lake Michigan as they travel along the Leelanau Trail, Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, and Betsie Valley Trail.
Leelanau County is known as the Land of Delight, for its beautiful protected lands, waterways, and coastlines. The featured Leelanau Trail travels from Traverse City to Suttons Bay. The tour also features the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail, which extends from Empire to Glen Arbor, and the Betsie Valley Trail, which connects Frankfort and Thompsonville.
The tour offers a choice between a 1 to 6-day ride. 6-Day riders begin and end in Traverse City. A 2-Day ride is offered both from Traverse City and Frankfort. Single day riders must provide their own transportation back to their car. Most routes are on paved trails and with interconnecting, paved back roads. The Betsie Valley Trail has a crushed limestone surface for 13 miles from Beulah to Thompsonville. For 6-Day riders, this section of crushed limestone is only 4% out of the total number of miles.
