Annual Man Kit So Memorial Ride

Tue July 26 - Tue August 2 San Francisco, CA 94129 US Directions

This is a 100% optional fundraiser, but we'd love if you would participate if you're able to. The goal is set for $50 per rider, but you can raise as little or as much as you're able. Otherwise, please just join us on the ride to 70 miles to remember Man Kit So! This year'll we'll be raising funds for The Young Center for Children’s Immigrants Rights.

Why The Young Center?

Man Kit So and his family immigrated from Hong Kong to the US, and were fortunate enough to have family and the financial means when they arrived in the US, but not all families and children are as fortunate.

In fact, children as young as two are expected to defend their asylum claims in court against a fully-grown judge to prevent themselves from being deported. The Young Center for Children’s Immigrants Rights aims to right that problem. The non-profit exclusively serves the needs of unaccompanied migrant children from detainment throughout deportation proceedings. The Young Center is comprised of bilingual volunteers who translate between kids and attorneys, attorneys themselves, child advocates, and more.

About The Young Center

The Young Center is the only nonprofit in the nation providing independent bilingual Child Advocates for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children facing deportation on their own. Last year, more than 126,000 children made journeys of thousands of miles, from countries all around the globe, fleeing war, gang and cartel violence, abuse, and impoverished communities. After arriving at the U.S. border seeking safety, they are taken into federal custody for months or even years, waiting for family sponsors to get them released, or for their immigration or asylum cases to proceed. On their own, children have a 10% chance of being granted some form of legal status in the U.S. With a Young Center Child Advocate or immigration attorney, those chances increase to 70-85%. By providing Child Advocates to learn children’s stories and fight for their rights and best interests during the deportation process, the Young Center is a champion for immigrant children, making sure that wherever they land, whether here in the U.S. or in their home country, they are safe.
