Originally inspired by the Paris-Roubaix Classic on the cobblestones, the Hell of the North Texas is pleased to now be considered a Paris, Texas tradition! Racing will feature our unique Spinistry Chase format that gives everyone the opportunity to win. Essentially, slower riders will get a head start to faster riders. Awards in each Race Group by ability as well as for the overall win. Not sure about which Race Group is for you? Click here to see current rankings.
Already an established Classic, the HOTNT enhances that pedigree with some of the most unique back country, gravel and dirt routes available anywhere. We will be linking primarily shaded and canopy roads to help as you challenge the summer sun. The route incorporates scenic portions of the North East Texas Trail and will also feature a finishers' lap which rivals the spectacle of the veolodrome in Roubaix. Courses will be marked and gps files and a phone app will be provided for backup navigation as well. Please note that these routes are NOT road bike appropriate. Gravel rigs, CX bikes or hardtail MTB's are the way to go.
This is a self supported event so riders are expected to make their own arrangements if they break down on course. There will not be SAG vehicles on the course. We will have aide stations on course and riders are never very far from civilization. All participants are expected to abide by the Texas Traffic Code and most only utilize bicycles without motorized assistance of any kind.
This is being held in conjunction with the Tour de Paris road rally the day before so please do make a weekend of it!

Spinistry Race Groups Info
Here's a refresher of how Spinistry Race Groups are intended to work: Our groups are based on average speed ability. That's different from USAC's "skill" based categories. The USAC model doesn't allow people to Cat up until they have started a certain number of races and finished towards the top of the field in their categories multiple times. That actually leads to a wide variance of speeds within those racing categories. USAC 4/5's will have racers with pavement speeds ranging from 14 mph to 20 mph (or more) racing side by side.
Our groupings are meant to keep that speed range tighter among comparable ability racers. If you currently race USAC 4/5 and don't finish near the top of the field you would probably be Group 2 in our fields. If you race 4/5 and finish near the top then you should probably be Group 3 in ours. Not sure about which Race Group is for you? Find the names of people you know of comparable ability to yours to determine which group you belong with (5 is Pro level fast). If you don't see anyone you are familiar with just forward your Strava link and we can sort it out.

Safety Plan
This ride is considered to be self supported. Riders are responsible for securing transportation if they are unable to to complete the ride for any reason. There will NOT be any SAG vehicles nor will we be able to retrieve riders who have issues on course. In case of a true emergency call 911. We will sweep the course at the end of the day to retrieve arrows and water tables. Riders should carry enough hydration/nutrition to care for themselves in case the provided water supply is unavailable for any reason. Riders should have access to route navigation via GPS file in case course markings are disrupted.
Riders are expected to follow the Texas Traffic Code at all times. The routes are all on public roads so please be considerate to other road users. Do not block the entire road even if you think you are in the middle of nowhere with no other traffic. If you must ride with earbud please consider using a rearview mirror as well., Helmets are required and lights (front & rear) are highly recommended.
