Winter Solstice to the Spring Equinox
December 21, 2024 to March 20, 2025
As the days grow shorter and the cold sets in, it's tempting to retreat, hunker down, and wait for spring to return. But what if this winter, instead of just enduring it, we embraced it as a season to thrive? The Wild and Scenic Winter Challenge is an invitation to do just that. From the Winter Solstice on December 21st to the Spring Equinox on March 20th, we're challenging ourselves to take 1 million steps - roughly 11,111 steps a day for 90 days.
1 Million Steps in 90 Days
Keep moving through the winter months with the challenge of taking 1 Million steps in 90 days. Starting on the shortest, darkest day of the year - the Winter Solstice, December 21st and ending with all the hope of new beginnings on the Spring Equinox, March 20th, 2025.
This isn't about perfection, hitting a goal time, or even structured workouts. It's about showing up for yourself and choosing movement, connection, and resilience during the season when it's hardest to do so. Whether your steps take you on snowy trails, quiet neighborhoods, or laps around your workplace, every step is a testament to your determination to thrive when most would rather hibernate.
This challenge is total daily steps. Whether you are running, walking around the gym during your strength workout, shopping, working, dancing, or adventuring. All steps count toward the goal no matter where, what, or how fast as long as you are moving you are winning. Actually, sorry cyclists, we can get our watch to record steps while riding.
Why a million steps? Because it's ambitious. Because it's challenging enough to feel meaningful, but not impossible. Because it's a reminder that even the most daunting goals are achieved one step at a time. And lastly, because every step you take during the day, no matter what you are doing, it's adding up to reach the goal.
1 Million Steps in 90 Days = 11,111 average steps per day
A goal of 10,000 steps a day is commonly recommended, but you are anything but ordinary and we know you love a good challenge.
When you join this challenge, you'll be stepping alongside a community of people who are ready to rewrite their winter story. Together, we'll share progress, celebrate milestones, and keep each other moving, even when the days are dark and the motivation feels cold.
