Starting in the heart of Telluride, CO. the first 28 miles the peloton stretches out as it winds its way downhill along the San Miguel River to the base of 'Norwood Hill', a solid 2 mile climb, where the cyclists quickly separate into a long single file, to Wrights Mesa and nearby Norwood, the first aid station, where typically the top layer of warm clothing comes off, as you prepare for a day in the sun. The 20 miles to the next community of Naturita is across the Mesa through ranch land and farm fields. Leaving Naturita the ride stays along the San Miguel River, as it transitions into the arid landscape of the high desert. The third and final aid station is at about mile 74, near the historic 'Hanging Flume'. For the next 30 miles the road meanders through the epic sandstone canyon, with its towering walls, winding river, and almost no traffic. This is a stunning stretch of the ride. Within ten miles of the finish, the towering palisades of Gateway come into view, and you know you're almost there! The party awaits! There will be live music, beer & food & awards awaiting your arrival. It is a downhill ride... but it's still a century of pedaling! Book your spot on a return shuttle at the end of the registration.
