What is Parks & Recreation?
If you were to ask this question some years ago, the answer would have been a place where you go to participate in traditional sports and activities such as baseball, basketball, football, swimming etc. Not so much today! Parks & Recreation is the advancement to healthier communities through programs that address modern technology and disease of an aging society.
The Detroit Parks & Recreation Department (DPRD) is a health and wellness agency that expand traditional programs to combat obesity, arthritis, Alzheimer, Dementia, suicide to name a few through its STAY Fit for Health initiative.
STAY is an acronym for Seniors, Teens, Adults and Youth which we service over 800+ members on a given day. Since its inception DPRD have played host to a 3K/5K/Fun Run, Protect Your Breath Event, Lunch & Learn ~ Caregiver Seminars and a Mental Health Week.
STAY Fit For Health Event
OBJECTIVE: Provides participants the opportunity to experience your urban park through a family fun health & wellness activities.
LOCATION: Rouge Park is a beautiful 1,184-acre park located on the West side of Detroit bounded by the railway to the north and West Warren to the south and by Outer Drive, West Parkway and Parkland on the west and Trinity and Burt Road on the east.

7:00 am Registration Open (Check In closes 15 minutes before each race time)
8:00 am Warm Up / Fun Run
8:15 am 10K Bike
8:30 am 10K Run
8:45 am 5K Run/Walk
9:00 am 3K Walk
DEMOGRAPHICS: All welcome – Open to the Public. Leased dogs are welcome.
EVENTS/DESCRIPTION: Kids Zone & Fun Run, 3K Walk, 5K Walk/Run, 10K Run/Bike
Registration is required for all areas.+
We encourage family participation and parents to register their child for the Kids Zone while they enjoy their walk/run/bike through the park.
Kids Zone & Fun Run – Youth play area (under 10) and ½ mile run. Youth will experience face painting, balloon twisting, inflatables, DIA Art, make & take arts & crafts, urban camping demo, petting zoo, sensory elements and much more.
3K Walk is a 1.86 Mile walk starting at Brennan Pool Drive/Spinoza Drive heading east/south on Spinoza Drive to Joy Road. Turn around on Spinoza Road north of Joy Rd. heading north/west on Spinoza Drive to Brennan Pool Drive.
5K Walk/Run is a timed 3.11 Mile walk or run starting at Brennan Pool Drive/Spinoza Drive heading east/south on Spinoza Drive to Tireman. Go west (right) on Tireman heading toward W. Outer Drive. Turn right on W. Outer Drive/Rouge Park Dr go North to Spinoza Drive go east (turn right) on Spinoza Drive take to Brennan Pool Drive.
10K Run/Bike is a timed 6.21 Mile bike or run starting at Brennan Pool Drive/Spinoza Drive heading east/south on Spinoza Drive to Warren Ave. Go west (right) on Warren Ave heading toward W. Outer Drive. Turn right on W. Outer Drive/Rouge Park Dr go north to Plymouth Road. Turn around on Spinoza Drive south of Plymouth Road. Go to Spinoza Drive go east (turn left) on Spinoza Drive take to Brennan Pool Drive.
MEDICAL/FIRST AIDE:
The event will have one first aid station located by registration and seven first aid station along the route. Each station will be equipped with an AED Unit, first aid kit, water and a staff certified in First Aid and CPR. In addition EMS and a 15 passenger van will patrol the route to assist participants.

Kids Zone & Fun Run – FREE (NO CHARGE)
3K Walk - $20 advance/ $25 onsite
5K Walk/Run - $25 advance / $30 onsite
10K Run/Bike - $30 advance / $35 onsite
Team/Group Discount (5 or more under one registration) receive $5 off each individual registration.

RULES & REGULATIONS
- On-site registration available Rouge Park - Brennan Pool - July 20 | 2 pm - 7 pm and July 21 | 7 am;
- Registration after May 31 are not guarantee a T-shirt; Participants under 18 years old must have their entry form signed by a parent/ guardian;
- All protest related to results must be submitted within 30 minutes after the official announcement of winners;
- Race bib numbers and electronic timing chips must be worn at all times during the race. Bib numbers must be pinned on front-of your running shirt;
- If registered for walk event participant are not allowed to run during the race otherwise subject to disqualification if in medal contention...
- Awards will be given to 1st Place Overall and Age categories in timed events.
- In the event of heavy rain, lightening or other inclement weather the event will be delay. The event will not be postponed until another day. Should the inclement weather persist for more than an hour the event will be canceled. If the rain occurs after the start of the race, you are advised to seek shelter. If you wish to continue with the race you do so at your own risk. NO refund will be issued if event is cancelled for act(s) of nature.
WAIVER & LIABILITY ~ RACE AGREEMENT
I know that my participation in the Detroit Parks & Recreation Department’s STAY Fit for Health event is potentially a hazardous activity, which could cause injury or death. I will not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained. My signature certify that I am properly trained, medically able and in good health to participate in this event. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to any aspect of my participation in this event, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I attest that I have read the rules of the race and agree to abide by them. I assume all risks associated with my participation in this event, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and/or humidity, traffic and the conditions of the road, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. I understand that bicycles, skateboards, roller skates or roller blades and unleashed animals are not allowed in the race and I will abide by all race rules. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts and inconsideration of your accepting my entry, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Detroit Parks & Recreation Department, STAY Fit for Health event, RunSignUp, the City of Detroit, all event sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event. I grant permission to all of the foregoing to use my photographs, motion pictures, recordings or any other record of this event for any legitimate purpose.
