Dear Friends and Family,
I’m excited to share that I’ll be participating in the Rock the Parkway 5K, and this year, it holds special meaning for me. Not only am I running to support the incredible work done by Children’s Mercy, where I am proud to work, but also to honor my niece’s courageous journey with scoliosis. Her story is one of resilience, hope, and the life-changing care she received at Children’s Mercy.
My Niece’s Journey with Scoliosis and MAGIC Rod Surgery:
Scoliosis became a significant part of her life when my niece was diagnosed at a young age. Her condition progressed to the point where surgery was necessary, and thanks to the exceptional care at Children’s Mercy, she underwent a procedure to have MAGnetic Expansion Control (MAGIC) rods implanted. These innovative rods allow for non-invasive adjustments as she grows, reducing the need for multiple surgeries and improving her quality of life.
The surgery was a success, but her journey is ongoing, with regular follow-ups and continued therapy. Through it all, her courage and positivity have been truly inspiring. Children’s Mercy has been a beacon of hope for our family, providing not only top-tier medical care but also compassion and support every step of the way.
Why I’m Running the Rock the Parkway 5K
As an employee of Children’s Mercy, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work done to help children like my niece. Running in this 5K allows me to give back to an institution that has given so much to our family and countless others. The funds raised will go directly to Children’s Mercy, supporting their mission to provide world-class care and pioneering treatments for children in need.
