Dear Community,
As you know, I’ve been a fierce advocate and champion for public education for many years. While I am no longer in the classroom, I continue to work alongside the most amazing educators and leaders in the Bay Area and beyond. Oakland and Alameda schools need our support. With the current administration and dismantling of our Education department and so much federal funding, the security of discretionary funding Ride for a Reason provides for our beneficiary schools is so important providing field trips, library services and materials, and so much more.
I’m writing to you because I count you among the people I love and I hope you’ll join me in this endeavor to support the teachers and students of Oakland and Alameda. I’m hopping on my bike in April to join Ride 4A Reason- an annual fundraiser and bike ride to Sacramento and I am asking you to join my fundraising efforts.
This year is also extra special as I ride not only for students and educators, but also my newest student and teacher Orli Rose. It was my personal goal to get back on my bike postpartum and ride to Sacramento knowing Orli will be there waiting to see her mama cross the finish line at 5 months postpartum! For that reason, I am raising the amount of Orli's birthday - 11/16/2024, or $1116.
Last year, thanks to the riders and supporters of Ride 4A Reason, more than 6,000 kids in eleven public schools in Oakland and Alameda had field trips, got to visit their school libraries, experienced the awe of river rafting, and wore official team uniforms for their sports teams -- for many, these were firsts.
This is the 17th year that R4R will be making the trek to Sacramento and I’m proud to be part of it. Over this time we have raised close to $1.8 million for public schools in Oakland and Alameda.
My goal is to raise $1116 by the time I hop on my bike on April 26th - can you donate today to help me get there? 100% of the funds I raise will go directly to these public schools in Oakland and Alameda. Maybe donate $1/mile ($45), or $2/mile ($90), or $5/mile ($225!).
