Old Fort Strong Endurance Festival

My goal is to cover 20 miles in 6 hours, to raise money for Old Fort NC, a small town on the Catawba River. I’m going to be running at a park where I live, in Moore County NC. 

Why would anyone want to run for 6 hours? 

Frankly I am wondering as well.

Thoughts I am having on this…

“That’s a terrible idea.”

“That’s gonna hurt.”

Do I like to run? Yes.

Have I run for 6 hours before? Nope.

Is this for a good cause? YES. 

The Blue Ridge Mountains, and trail running, are woven deeply into my core and many of my favorite areas are now doing the hard work of rebuilding after this “once in 1000 years” flood from Hurricane Helene. Old Fort is a small town near Mt Mitchell and Black Mtn, in Pisgah National Forest, with a population of only 818 people, according to the latest census. 

Help me in my effort to raise money for the Old Fort Strong Fund. This fund is dedicated to helping support community members in Old Fort who have lost their homes or had significant damage to their homes and will not receive any help to pay for rebuilding from insurance.  Due to the massive flooding that took place outside of historic flood zones, many homes did not have flood insurance to cover this cost.  In total 50+ homes were lost in McDowell County alone.  The goal is to raise $2,000,000 from this event alone to help in this cause.  All donations will go directly to helping those in need in the community.  This fund is managed by Camp Grier, a 501c3 organization that has been on the front lines of helping the Old Fort community since the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
