Hi all, It is hard to believe that we are nearly half-way through 2024. Although there were bumps along the way the one constant has been our cycling adventures. As most of you know I joined David in New Zealand after he had finished riding the north island and road from the tip of the south island to the bottom ending in Bluff. It was the most amazing and most grueling 11 days of riding (and everything in between), but in the end I am glad to have had the experience.
But riding for myself is only part of the reason I love riding. I have found that riding with others in a common cause is a special time. David and I got to witness that recently with his nephew who was participating in the AIDS Life Cycle ride. They had over 2000 riders who each had to raise $3500. We met them along the route on day one as they rode into Santa Cruz and the atmosphere created by the riders and the volunteers was amazing.
It reminded me that I needed to send out my request for support as I once again will ride with the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary from Healdsburg back to Santa Cruz in September. You have all been so supportive these past few years and I hope you are able to support me again. If this is not the year for you, that's ok - I will probably be back at it again next year!
The Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise has a long history of supporting youth organizations with this ride. This year we will be biking to raise funds to bring an inclusive and accessible playground to our community: Treasure Cove at Jade Street Park!
Please read more about our beneficiary organizations and how through our partnership we will support our young community members.
In addition, as always, the ride will provide support to other community organizations dedicated to the heath, well-being and growth of youth in our community. Included this year are: Skills of Life Café, The Teen Kitchen Project, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County, Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary's High School Scholarship program (providing 2 and 4-year college scholarship) and the Charities and Grants program (providing grants to local youth athletic and arts organizations).
I've committed to fundraise a minimum of $1000 with a personal goal of $1500! So please consider sponsoring me for this ride. With an all-volunteer crew 100% of the proceeds go to the charities, and it’s all tax deductible as the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit.
