Grateful for your support!
Many schools in California depend on community fundraising to provide elective classes and enrichment programs — things that used to be thought of as necessary like libraries, art and music, science equipment, sports programs, and low-cost after-school activities. At the same time, California teacher salaries remain uncompetitive, and our state’s spending per pupil remains well below the national average. This ride to the state capitol is therefore dual purpose: to raise funds in the immediate term AND bring attention to the long-term problem of underfunded public schools.
This Saturday Ben and his Oakland Tech Road Biking Club will ride together (with me as the "responsible adult") 68 miles from Suisun City to Sacramento! Ben is about to wrap up his junior year of high school at Oakland Tech. I can’t believe it’s been 12 years since Ben first rode with me as a pre-kindergartener and eight years since he rode his own bike there as a third grader.
