The past few years we have been accepting donations to support the effort to gain more Mountain Bike Trails and the maintenance of those trails in our area. We are so grateful for everyone's generosity in donating to this great cause. I am happy to report that Touch of Nature now has around 12 miles of pristine singletrack to ride. The Shawnee Mountain Bike Association (SMBA) will be assisting with maintaining the trails at Touch of Nature along with the rest of the trails in the Shawnee like they have since the 1990s. SMBA has been working with the Shawnee National Forest Service for several years as volunteers helping build trail, maintain trail, clear deadfall and most importantly working to gain more trail access in the Shawnee National Forest. The SNFS recently designated the trails at Lake Glendale and Dixon Springs for Mountain Biking! This is the first trails in the SNFS to be designated for MTB. Other than that area, there are 400 miles of multi-use trail that we share with horseback riders, hikers, runners and anyone else who wants to use them. In addition to spending many hours on the trails at Lake Glendale/Dixon Springs, they also spend hundreds of hours a year working on the multi-use trails. Working with the FS staff to gain more access to more trails and the possibility of more trails designated for MTB/hiker only is also a big part of SMBA. In summary, SMBA could use donations to assist with buying equipment to maintain the trails, materials for trail repair, materials for bridges or signage and possibly food and beverages for volunteers at work days. If you have a few extra bucks and want to donate them to a worthy cause, toss a few toward this project. It will be appreciated.
Thank you!
