Unless U envisions a world where adults with developmental disabilities are not seen through the lens of their disability but rather through what they offer their community.
Lindy Williamson Cleveland earned a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Life Education from Samford University in 2014. While in college, Lindy founded "D4D" (Dance for Down Syndrome). The mission of her fundraiser is to foster inclusion for individuals with developmental disabilities while raising funds and awareness for the special needs community at large. Her efforts caught the eye local publications, and she has been featured in the Over the Mountain Journal, About Town Magazine, and Al.com. Lindy shared her vision and fundraising efforts with Fox 6 News and CBS News 42. Lindy received the Inner Beauty Award from Birmingham Magazine, and her story is featured in the 2013 edition of Birmingham's Most Beautiful People. Samford University honored Lindy for her efforts by awarding her the Samford University Outstanding Community Service Award in 2014, and the Jessica M. Smith Outstanding Community Service Award in 2013. Lindy was also a TedxBirmingham speaker in 2016. It has always been Lindy's lifelong dream to start a program like Unless U. Lindy is constantly working to make Unless U the best it can be for her students and the Birmingham community. She is married to Mitch Cleveland who is a special education teacher in the Vestavia Hills Education school system and they have a son named, Grady.
