Greater Southern Arizona Area Chapter (GSAAC) is a 501c(3), organized and operated as an affiliate of the Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Association.  We are dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers of the United States by informing, educating, and engaging the community, especially the future leaders of our community, reinforcing the tremendous and often forgotten impact of these brave soldiers’ achievements past, present and future.  The GSAAC is the lead Buffalo Soldier organization in creating a worthwhile memorial, honoring the Buffalo Soldier service in Arizona and the Southwest.

Our scholarship awards program has offered encouragement to local high school seniors and community college transfer students to fulfill their educational goals by providing annual scholarships.  We have awarded approximately 30 scholarships, totaling approximately $30,000 to local Tucson students. We hope this affiliation serves to further this effort for future generations of students.

Members of the GSAAC make many history presentations throughout the Tucson Community.  The topics include the general overview of the beginnings of the Buffalo Soldiers, the life of a Buffalo Soldier, the Buffalo Soldier on the Arizona/Mexico border area and key Buffalo Soldier figures and much more. We have made Buffalo Soldier history presentation at the following events: DMAFB Black History Month Breakfast. Tucson Juneteenth Festival, Nogales Mingus JAZZ Music Festival, Presidio San Augustin Kid's Camp, among others. We have participated in the many of the Tucson Rodeo Parades, representing Buffalo Soldier history, winning the Best Mounted Western Male Award for 2018, and the highest honor, the Curt Sullivan Sweepstakes Award for 2019, and second place for historical theme in 2023.
