Growing up in a small town on the South Shore of Massachusetts, hockey wasn’t just a winter sport — it was a way of life. We played year-round, and even the things we did off the ice were tied to the hockey community. A story that has always stayed with me is Eleven Seconds, the Travis Roy story. For anyone who doesn’t know, it tells the story of a local kid who got his chance to play hockey at the coveted Boston University. In his very first shift of his very first game, he went crashing into the boards, leaving him paralyzed and a quadriplegic for the rest of his life. It’s a reminder that life can change in an instant.
That’s why, when I was given the opportunity to play in the Courage Cup for the Thomas E. Smith Foundation, it was a no-brainer. Like Travis, Thomas Smith faced a life-changing spinal cord injury and, like Travis, he chose to turn his story into something bigger — giving back to the spinal cord injury community through his foundation.
I’m honored to support this cause and would love your help. Please consider supporting my participation in the Thomas E. Smith Foundation Courage Cup by donating below. Thank you!
