Friends’ mission is to “impact generational change by empowering youth facing the greatest obstacles through relationships with professional mentors.” They seek out children from challenging backgrounds, assigning a mentor from kindergarten until age 18. Over the past 30 years, Friends of the Children has a phenomenal track record of helping these children become productive adults, while many peers outside the program end up in the criminal justice system, dropping out of school, or becoming teen parents.
