Two important issues galvanized a small group of cyclists to form the Cave Creek Bicycle Association (CCBA) in 2010. What brought this group together was the need to promote and support efforts to get bike lanes through Cave Creek and Carefree and ensure access to Maricopa County Parks from the core area of Cave Creek.
In 2012, a core group of mountain bikers quickly grew into an organization and rallied over 100 cyclists to attend a Cave Creek Town Council meeting to support a grant application (which was successfully funded) to design and construct bike lanes through Cave Creek and Carefree.
Recognizing that our core constituency is the broader mountain bike community in the northern portion of Maricopa County, CCBA formally changed its name to the Desert Foothills Mountain Bike Association (DFMBA) in 2014, and became one of the newest chapters of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA).
