Sergeant Mendez had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for almost 23 years and was assigned to the Airport Unit. He is survived by his wife and daughter. Sergeant Mendez was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and awarded the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor. Officer Lorenzo had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 23 years and was assigned to the Highway Patrol. He is survived by his wife and three children. He is also survived by a brother who serves with the Philadelphia Police Department.
Two of the finest Philadelphia police officers gone too soon but will never be forgotten. We will honor these members of the Philadelphia Police who have made the ultimate sacrifice. May we never forget their bravery and dedication and forever keep them and their families in our hearts.
