This year I am running the Rock the Parkway half-marathon again and fund-raising for Children's Mercy. If you're reading this, you already know how important the hospital was to our lives in 2014, when Teddy was a newborn with an angry pancreas. It was there that we got a crash course in all things pediatric endocrinology and a diagnosis. While Teddy's specific condition is rare, the care he received at Children's Mercy isn't unusual. All children, from the tiniest preemies to teenagers, are cared for with dedication and compassion by the staff. Moreover, Children's Mercy serves a large swatch of our rural area; without their care, many children would undoubtedly suffer worse health outcomes.
Mr. Rogers advised us that in difficult times, we should look for the helpers and we would see that people are doing good in the world. Well, Children's Mercy is one of the helpers. Together, we can turn a good thing into a great impact for children in our neck of the Midwest.
