Riley's Legacy Continues

Welcome to My Sharon's Ride.Run.Walk. San Diego Team Fundraising Page!

Last year we lost my son, Riley Alan Cocks, to complications of an epileptic seizure. He was a son, brother, Uncle, nephew, coach, umpire, mentor, organ donor, and so much more.

Since his passing I’ve learned just exactly how big the impact Riley had on our community. Besides establishing Team Rhizzle Sizzle to raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation, he had touched the lives of so many people in the North County of San Diego. So much so that he has been acknowledged by the Carlsbad Youth Baseball and La Costa Youth Organization, both establishing annual recognition awards in his name for the Outstanding Youth Umpire in their organization. They earn this recognition by demonstrating Respect, Accountability, and Commitment to and for the community. In addition, a local non-profit organization, Boomerang, has recognized Riley with their first ever “Legacy Award.” This award is given to an individual that has demonstrated Legacy Youth Development, Exemplary Charity & Leadership contributions to the youth of our community.

For several years now to start every baseball game Riley and/or I umpire we adopted a slogan. It is born from the discussions Riley, and I had about his difficulties, failures and finally rebirth. His Phoenix like life if you will. Instead of saying the traditional “Play Ball” to start a game, we shout loud and clear for all to hear, “Fair Play, Have Fun, Play Ball.” It’s become our tradition and is now expected by players and fans:

Fair Play = Do what’s right and ethical always. Even when no one is looking!

Have Fun = Enjoy what you’re doing. There’s no honor in being miserable!

Play Ball = Get out and do it - today! Participate in your life, your families’ lives’, the lives of your friends and the community. Tomorrow isn’t a promise.

Riley can no longer fulfill the attributes of our slogan. But we, and those who received the gifts of his organs and other vital tissues, must keep his Legacy and tradition alive. Join me in renewing the Team Rhizzle Sizzle commitment to support epilepsy research.

Sharon's Ride.Run.Walk San Diego is a 15-mile Bike Ride or 5K Run/Walk that is very important to me.  I am raising money to help The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County so they can provide wraparound support services and programs at no cost to individuals and families affected by epilepsy.  Join the movement that brings our community together to educate, spread awareness and make a difference for the people we love who live with epilepsy.  Please help me support this cause - JOIN MY TEAM.
